Water Safety Program

Safe swimming

Fatal drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury death behind motor vehicle crashes for children ages 1–14. (CDC)

Together, with the American Red Cross, we strive to raise awareness about drowning risks and increase knowledge of water safety for children and adults.

At Diventures we are committed to reducing that number not only through swim lessons but also through water safety education. We’ve partnered with the American Red Cross to provide a free interactive presentation designed for kids, kindergarten through sixth grade to teach the importance of water safety.

Our Red Cross certified instructors are trained to ensure kids, families, and communities can be safe and have fun in and around the water. This program is designed to help teach the importance of water safety and improve water competency.

Anyone can book an instructor to teach the Water Safety program. Our instructors provide the learning materials and come to you. All you need is access to a TV/Projector with a laptop connection. It is a great activity for schools, churches, libraries, and community organizations.

After completion of our water safety presentation, kids will earn our Diventures water safety certificate.

“Do your part, be water smart!”

Our Red Cross certified instructors are here to ensure kids, families, and communities can be safe and have fun in and around the water. The Water Safety program is comprised of two sections: Longfellow’s WHALE Tales and water safety outreach.

Longfellow’s WHALE Tales

WHALE Tales are short, engaging, and age-appropriate videos that teach important water safety topics. Each episode centers on a memorable rhyming phrase to help children retain what they’ve learned.

The program has content designed for Kindergarten through sixth graders and has free downloadable activity sheets that correspond with each episode.

Water Safety Outreach

Water Safety Outreach is designed to help prepare older youth and adults in the community to be safer in and around the water. This life-saving information is designed to be delivered in 30-minute sessions in any setting, such as service organizations for older youth or adults, community meetings, or homeowners associations. Session topics include General Water Safety, Home Pool Safety, Sun Safety, and Rip Current Safety.

Safety is our number one priority!

Fun is our number one goal!

What does it mean to be water competent?

Water competency is a way of improving water safety for yourself and those around you through avoiding common dangers, developing fundamental water safety skills to make you safer in and around the water, and knowing how to prevent and respond to drowning emergencies. Water competency has 3 main components: water smarts, swimming skills, and helping others.
